In the second episode of the podcast series “EUCON – The Eurasian Podcast” Florence Ertel talks to Professor Dr. Daniel Göler from the University of Passau about the implications of the Russian war of aggression against Ukraine. Looking back to the Russian-Ukrainian-European relations before the war, Daniel Göler discusses whether Russia perceives the EU’s normative power as a geopolitical threat, triggering its aggression against Ukraine since 2014. Based on this assumption, he raises the question of how unexpected the Russian attack actually was.
Daniel Göler holds a Jean-Monnet-Chair of European Politics at the University of Passau. His primary research interests include the EU’s Common Foreign and Security Policy, German strategic culture, and governance in the European multi-level system.
