Our guest is Professor Dr. Daniel Göler from the Jean Monnet Chair for European Politics at the University of Passau. His primary research interests include the EU’s Common Foreign and Security Policy, German strategic culture, and governance in the European multi-level system. In addition, we discuss the question of the relevance of the image of the EU as a normative and civil power and why it seems that in this conflict the EU is putting aside its differences in foreign and security policy and is acting jointly. Third episode of “EUCON – The Eurasian Podcast” published

In the third episode of the podcast series “EUCON – The
Eurasian Podcast” we talk to Hannes Meissner from the Center of Excellence for Black Sea Studies at the University of Applied Sciences BFI Vienna. Hannes is working on political risk analysis and political risk management of multinational corporations with a focus on the post-Soviet space. His current research focuses on state capture, informal networks and their consequences for multinational companies, such as corruption, clientelism and a weak rule of law. We talk about the differences between economic and political risk and how these concepts are interconnected. We also shed light on the question of how companies can effectively identify and mitigate political risks. In addition, we discuss how the Russian war on Ukraine is impacting the field of political risk management in the post-Soviet space and what challenges companies face and how they can address them. Fourth episode of “EUCON – The Eurasian Podcast” published

In the fourth episode of the podcast series “EUCON – The Eurasian Podcast” Florence Ertel (formerly Reiter) talks to Johannes Leitner from LM Political Risk and Strategy Advisory, Vienna.

Against the backdrop of the Russian war of aggression, Johannes and Florence shed light on the current situation in Belarus. They also talk about the deteriorating economic and political relations between the EU and Belarus and the resulting regime-specific political risk factors and their impact on companies. Furthermore, they talk about strategies companies based or operating in Belarus can apply to deal with these changing conditions.

Johannes Leitner worked in numerous projects with research stays in the black sea region. His research and expertise focus on political risk management, as well as formal and informal institutions and their consequences for international business, with a focus on the post-Soviet space and Turkey.

Fifth episode of “EUCON – The Eurasian Podcast” published

In the fifth episode of the podcast series “EUCON – The Eurasian Podcast” Florence Ertel (formerly Reiter) talks to Anna Lazareva, member of the EUCON-Project team and researcher.

In this episode, we will talk about the significance of the economic side of the war in Ukraine, focusing on issues like the impacts on trade and inflation, shortages in supply chains, and an increase of fiscal deficit. Relating to this, Ukraine is not only dependent on military support, but also on capital flows in form of aid payments and loans from other states and the European Union in order to maintain the functioning of its state. This is especially impactful for the country’s economy when taking into consideration Ukraine’s already high indebtment prior to the outbreak of the war. Originally from Ukraine, Anna Lazareva is completing her master’s degree in Political Science at the University of Vienna and has participated in various research projects related to the revival and emplacement of DPs from Ukraine. She is a member of the EUCON-Project team located in Vienna, where she works on the EU-EAEU-relations in the light of ongoing geopolitical shifts.
